Cape Town - According to a report by Barcelona-based news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Middlesbrough winger Adama Traore turned down the chance to join Pep Guardiola at both Bayern Munich and Manchester City.

The 20-year-old, a Barcelona youth team product who made one appearance in the first team, initially turned down Guardiola while he was still in charge of Bayern.

The lightning-fast forward instead joined Aston Villa in a £7m pound deal, but barely featured as the club were relegated in 2015/16.

Barca had an option to buy the player back although they declined to take it up as the player instead won a move to Middlesbrough, with Albert Adomah heading in the opposite direction.

Then Villa coach Roberto Di Matteo was reportedly reluctant to let the Spanish-born star leave, however, he couldn't prevent the transaction going through.

Before signing for Boro, Guardiola was again in touch with Traore about the possibility of joining him at City. Yet, he declined citing the likelihood of getting regular first team football for the Aitor Karanka-coached outfit.

The Spanish youth international has caught the eye at times in his six appearances for the Teeside club, most notably against Arsenal in late October.
