Cape Town - Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted that his side were lucky on Tuesday after an offside goal helped them to beat struggling Swansea City 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium.

Fernando Llorente, who scored his first Premier League goal for Tottenham since his summer move from the Swans, was clearly offside when he headed the visitors into the lead.

Pochettino later accepted that his side had benefited from a poor decision by the linesman.

“I didn’t see, but the people tell me it was offside,” Pochettino said afterwards.

“You need some luck to open the game. Always in football, sometimes it is for you, sometimes it is against you.

“And you need to accept that in one season this will happen.”

Pochettino, though, denied that Spurs had profited from some more good fortune when defender Davinson Sanchez escaped a second caution for a second-half lunge on Martin Olsson.

“I was worried. We all were about it. I don’t think it should have been a yellow card. But with the fans and everyone can start to put pressure on the referee, sometimes you can avoid a problem so we took him off,” added the Argentine.

“The conditions were so difficult to play in but I think we deserved the victory. We wanted three points and it was important for Fernando to score and feel involved.”
