Cape Town - Real Madrid are reportedly set to revive their interest in Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling after contacting his agent in the off-season.

Los Blancos are in need of reinforcements and their boss Zinedine Zidane is under all sorts of pressure in the Spanish capital.

It has now been revealed that their general director approached Sterling's agent this summer for talks over a possible move to Spain.

Whilst there is no chance of a move in the near future it could well be that Real Madrid are trying to open up lines of communication that they may be able to exploit further down the line.

The England forward has come on leaps and bounds over the past two years and is now seen as one of the first names on Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate's team sheet.

Sterling is an integral part of Pep Guardiola's champions so the thought of him being sold will raise alarm bells but, apparently, he has no intention of moving on in the near future.

City will no doubt be trying to tie Sterling down to a new contract in the near future with talks pencilled in over the next few months to discuss a new deal.

Sterling sat out Manchester City's massive 8-0 win over Watford at the weekend as Guardiola's side crushed the visitors with a clinical display.

They remain second in the table as Premier League rivals Liverpool also picked up three points as they hung on to a 2-1 lead at Chelsea.

City are five points behind Jurgen Klopp's side and are next in Premier League action on Saturday when they travel to lowly Everton in the evening kick-off.
