Cape Town - Sevilla star Joris Gnagnon has apologised for his shock tackle on Yasser Larouci that saw him receive a red card during the 2-1 win over Liverpool.

Larouci was carried off the pitch on a stretcher following a nasty challenge, with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp saying his player was lucky to escape serious injury.

The Sevilla ace was immediately shown a red card and then took to Twitter after the game to apologise to Larouci, his family and everyone involved with Liverpool.

"I would like to publicly apologise towards Liverpool, the family of the player and its supporters," he said.

"It was an odious act on my part. Whatever the reason, it’s not what should be seen on a football pitch.

"All my prayers are with the player and his family."

Earlier, Nolito had put the Spanish side ahead in the 38th minute of the match at Fenway Park before Divock Origi cancelled it out two minutes before the break with a finish from close range.

Sevilla clinched the win in the final minute as Alejandro Pozo scored into an empty net.
