Swansea - Swansea City pulled further away from relegation trouble in the Premier League on Saturday with a 1-0 victory at home to struggling Norwich City.

Gylfi Sigurdsson struck just past the hour mark at the Liberty Stadium to hand Swansea only their third home win in 13 matches and consign Norwich to an eighth defeat in their last nine.

Swansea moved nine points clear of the bottom three after a second win in four days, but Norwich remain mired in the drop zone, one point adrift of 17th-place Sunderland.

Swansea were without head coach Francesco Guidolin again, with the Italian still recovering in hospital from a chest infection, as the hosts made six changes to the side that beat Arsenal 2-1 in midweek.

Norwich boss Alex Neil recalled Steven Naismith after the Scotland international missed Tuesday's 2-1 defeat against Chelsea, as the Canaries arrived in Wales having scored in just two of their last eight away games.

New FIFA president Gianni Infantino was a special guest at the Liberty Stadium, with Sepp Blatter's successor taking a break from the International Football Association Board's AGM taking place in Cardiff this weekend.

Nathan Redmond shot straight at Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski early on, but Norwich were dealt a blow when Robbie Brady was forced off midway through the opening period.

Fabianski parried away a Cameron Jerome strike just before half-time, but the introduction of Leroy Fer against his former club sparked the Swans into life.

Fer spent the 2013-14 campaign with Norwich when they were last relegated from the top flight, and the Dutch midfielder played a key role by setting up Sigurdsson to slot home on 61 minutes.

Wayne Routledge was denied by Norwich keeper John Ruddy as Swansea pressed for a second, with substitute Modou Barrow also going close before Sigurdsson shaved the woodwork with a 25-yard free-kick.

Redmond nearly snatched an equaliser for Norwich three minutes from time, while on-loan Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford was then thwarted by Fabianski as Swansea held on.
