Spanish midfielder Thiago Alcantara is to undergo a medical within the next 24 hours ahead of a reported transfer from Bayern Munich to Premier League champions Liverpool in a four-year deal.
Skysports reported that Liverpool are believed to have reached a deal for the transfer of the Spanish international in an initial £20 million move with add-ons taking the total up to a possible £27 million after meeting the European champions' asking price.
The 29-year-old will sign a deal until 2024 as manager Jurgen Klopp makes his second transfer in the current transfer window.
Thiago helped Bayern last season be crowned European champions with former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney calling the potential move of Alcantara to Liverpool as pivotal in the title race.
"I think it is City or Liverpool [for the title]. Man United have a lot of potential in the players they have got but I still think they are a year away. Chelsea with the new signings will possibly need a year to get everyone on the same songsheet.
"So I do think it is between City and Liverpool. And if Liverpool get Thiago from Bayern Munich, I think it is done.
"That is a better signing than Messi going to Man City."
