Cape Town - Michel Vorm says it is "special" for him to be able to extend his stay with Tottenham after signing a new contract with the club.

The 33-year-old former Utrecht and Swansea City stopper, penned a deal that will see him remain in north London until 2018.

He follows first-choice keeper Hugo Lloris in committing to Spurs after he put pen to paper on a new six-year deal on Thursday.

Vorm, who has been used as back-up to Lloris, has made 26 appearances for the club, and was mostly utilised in the English Football League Cup this season.

A brief statement from Spurs read: "We are delighted to announce that Michel Vorm has signed a new contract with the Club which will run until 2018.

"The Dutch international goalkeeper joined us from Swansea City in July, 2014, and has proved to be a reliable figure whenever called upon, notably playing a number of games during our run to the League Cup Final in 2014-15 and putting in a Man of the Match performance in our Premier League clash with Liverpool earlier this season."

A delighted Vorm added: "It’s special (to sign a new contract). When you come here you have expectations but you don’t really know what’s going to happen, although over the years I think I’ve done well on every level in the club and I think it’s very important for me to see how it is to be at a big club.

"The fact that I can extend my contract here is very positive. I’m very happy here, my family is very happy and I’ve got a lot of respect for the staff and the players. To be honest, I can’t name a negative point."
