Cape Town - Tottenham Hotspur and Kenya star Victor Wanyama has been nominated for his work in helping transform the lives of the less privileged using social media.

Wanyama, who is the captain of the Kenya national team, has been nominated along with athletics world record-holder David Rudisha and Sevens rugby team star Biko Adema.

In the same category for the Sports Personality of the Year, Rudisha, claimed last season's gong. The 800m runner holds the world record in the event with a time of 1:40.91.

Meanwhile, it appears Adema has been rewarded for some of his stellar displays for the rugby team.

Nonetheless, Wanyama could be a favourite to land the OLX-sponsored award - he enjoyed a superb season with Spurs in the Premier League and recently donated a large sum of money to the Sevens side.

The awards are reportedly used to recognise and reward individuals who have made a positive use of social media to positively impact society as a whole.
