London - Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says the club will wait to determine the extent of the hamstring injury sustained by defender Francis Coquelin.

The 25-year-old Frenchman had to be withdrawn after just 28 minutes of the Gunners' 3-3 draw with Bournemouth on Tuesday, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain coming on in his place.

After the match, a concerned Wenger says he fears the worst for the former  Lorient, SC Freiburg and Charlton Athletic loanee.

He said: "Coquelin has a hamstring (problem).

"We have to wait 48 hours for the scan and the result. But usually when he sits down and comes off it's not so good news.

"If it's just tiredness he will try to play on but he didn't even try to play again."

Arsenal found themselves three-nil down in the tie before a storming second-half comeback.

Wenger added: "We had some players at half-time who had problems.

"I changed it very early in the second half, and I think they refused to lose the game. There is a great resilience in the team and they showed it again today.

"In terms of our ambitions we dropped two points, but we have to do better in the other games and hope that the other teams who come here will drop points, too."

Arsenal ended the festive season in fourth place on 41 points, some eight points off league leaders Chelsea, but 16 points clear of the Cherries in ninth place.

They next travel to the Liberty Stadium to face Swansea City with newly-appointed manager Paul Clement looking to guide the Swans out of the relegation zone on January 14.

Kick off is scheduled for 17:00.
