We've had no offers for Schmeichel, says Shakespeare

Cape Town - Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare isn't reading too much into reports linking Kasper Schmeichel with a move away from the club at the end of the season.

The Denmark international has established himself at one of the finest goalkeepers in the world whilst playing for the Foxes in the Premier League, and was vital to their historic title triumph 12 months ago.

Schmeichel set the rumour mill spinning earlier this week with news he had changed agents, after leaving Triple S Management for Luca Bascherini, who has good relations with Manchester United.

Bascherini was responsible for brokering the deals to bring Nani and Patrice Evra to Old Trafford, and with David De Gea's future the subject of constant speculation, United are believed to be interested in signing the 30-year-old, which would see him follow in his father's mighty footsteps.

But Shakespeare is confident that Schmeichel will honour his contract at the King Power Stadium, despite a disappointing title defence for the English champions.

Asked if he thought the Manchester City youth product would still be a part of the squad next term, Shakespeare replied: "Yes, I do.

"He's in the form of his life. There's been a lot of speculation this week, but he's totally entitled to change his agent," the 53-year-old added in the news conference.

"What I would say is he has been very professional, his performances have shown that. He has a very strong character, and I expect him to carry on in the same way.

"I don't feel the need to talk to him, because he's perfectly entitled to change his agent when that contract comes to an end."

When quizzed on whether he knew of any enquiries about Schmeichel, who is tied to the East Midlands club until 2021, Shakespeare said: "No.

"I've said before I have no problems with players wanting to progress and play in the Champions League, as we have done, but ultimately I think Kasper is happy here. We have to cross that bridge when we come to it."
