Cape Town - Former PSV midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum says he does not regret his move to Newcastle United, who may be relegated from the Premier League this season.

With eight matches left to play and a newly-appointed manager in Rafa Benitez, the Magpies are 19th in the standings and three points away from safety.

The Netherlands international has played over 30 games for Newcastle this season and insisted he is happy at the club, before adding that he was fully aware of the team's situation when signed with them at the beginning of the campaign.

"I knew it was difficult because they had a tough season last year but I made the choice with full confidence and I still do not regret it," Wijnaldum told RTV Rijnmond.

"I'm still happy there. I am just trying to do my thing and enjoy it - then you are at your best."

Newcastle will face fellow strugglers Norwich City in their first game back after the international break as they look to get their survival plans back on track on Saturday.
