Cape Town - Manuel Pellegrini says Jack Wilshere's return for West Ham has been delayed until November after his ankle flared up.
But ahead of facing Tottenham Hotspur at home in the Premier League on Saturday, the Hammers boss says Wilshere needs more rest after experiencing some swelling.
He told Sky Sports: "Jack felt some pain the last two days here so he needs more time to recover."
Wilshere played four times for West Ham this season. He was injured in the 1-0 loss to Wolves and Pellegrini's side head into this weekend's clash looking to build on just two wins and one draw from eight games this season.
A welcome boost for the manager though is the return of Andy Carroll to training after his ankle troubles from pre-season.
He is yet to make an appearance this season, with Pellegrini adding: "Andy is recovering. He started working this week, part of the warm-up with the whole squad, so we will see in the next week how he improves.
"I hope that in a maximum of 15 days he will at least be working with the squad completely."
