Cape Town - Nigeria forward Sone Aluko admits the team are bitterly disappointed to have missed out on a place at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations following Wednesday's draw against South Africa.

The reigning continental champions welcomed Bafana Bafana to Uyo this week for the final round of Group A fixtures needing only to match Congo's result against Sudan in the night's simultaneous kick-off to earn their place in next year's tournament.

However, Stephen Keshi's men had to battle back from 2-0 down against Bafana to salvage a 2-2 draw, meaning Congo's 1-0 victory put the Red Devils through to the showpiece event at the Super Eagles' expense.

And Aluko, who netted both goals for Nigeria this week, admits missing out on a place in Equatorial Guinea has proved a very bitter pill to swallow.

"I am disappointed, everybody is disappointed," the Hull City forward Aluko is quoted as saying by Football411.

"We did not get the result we wanted, and we now have to pick ourselves up as a team."
