Cape Town - Following his first appearance in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) over the weekend, Orlando Pirates and Ghana goalkeeper Fatau Dauda is optimistic that he will keep Portuguese and Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, at bay when they clash in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Dauda made his long awaited debut for the Sea Robbers in a 1-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns at the Orlando Stadium over the weekend.

The former Ashanti Gold FC shot-stopper came on as a second-half substitute after first-choice ‘keeper, Senzo Meyiwa, sustained an injury while attempting to clear Hlompho Kekana’s contender for goal of the season.

Speaking to the Ghanasoccernet website, the 28-year-old goal-minder said he will do his best to save all Ronaldo’s shots when they meet in the global showpiece in June.

The Black Stars were the only African team to qualify for the 2006 World Cup knockout stages when they were eliminated in the last 16 by the five-time champions Brazil.

They lost 3-0 in that match.

They were again the only African team to reach the quarter-finals of the 2010 tournament in South Africa where they narrowly missed out on a chance to reach the semi-finals after striker, Asamoah Gyan, missed a last-minute penalty in extra-time against Uruguay.

Uruguay went on to triumph on penalties.

Ghana has been drawn in a tough Group G alongside Portugal, Germany and the USA.

They will kick off their third campaign on the global stage against the Americans at the Estadio das Dunas on June 17.
