Buenos Aires - Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona will work as a commentator at the World Cup for South American television channel teleSUR, an Argentine website reports.

"I have just signed the most exciting contract of my career," Maradona told canchallena.com's website on Monday.

"This is football with politics, that is what I like most," he added. Maradona will work together with Victor Hugo Morales, one of the most well-known sport journalists in South America.

The 53-year-old Maradona previously did television work at the World Cups of 1994 - when still active as a player - and 2006.

The World Cup begins in Brazil on June 12.
