Cape Town - Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, who recently underwent keyhole surgery on his knee, has insisted he will be fit and ready come the start of the World Cup next month.

Suarez has reportedly been in contact with fellow Liverpool team-mates in the England squad to warn them that he will be ready to face them in the Group D fixture come the 19th of June.

England manager Roy Hodgson's hopes of steering his side into the knockout stage would have been massively boosted had the Uruguayan been forced to sit the game out.

Suarez will represent the biggest threat to England's chances of beating the Uruguayans next month en-route to the last 16 stage.

According to the Daily Star, Suarez has already returned to light training ahead of Uruguay's first group game against Costa Rica on June 14 and team doctor Alberto Pan said: "We can happily say that Luis' participation in the World Cup is not ruled out.

"We cannot have absolute certainty or clear numbers but the post-operative period has been very good.

"Luis is very positive. I never heard a negative expression and he says it is better every day.

"He is painless and is working on fitness."
