Denmark to field amateurs, futsal players against Wales

Cape Town - Denmark are set to field a team of amateurs and futsal players against Wales after a sponsorship dispute that has rocked Danish football.

A bitter dispute has developed between players and the Danish FA concerning the players' commercial rights ahead of the international friendly against Slovakia on Wednesday and their Nations League opener against Wales on Sunday.

With no sign of a resolution the Danish FA have announced a 24-man squad made up of lesser-known players from lower divisions rather than big-name stars such as Christian Eriksen, Kasper Schmeichel and Andreas Christensen.

Astonishingly, the side will be made up of amateurs and national futsal players, a five-a-side game played on a smaller pitch.

Tottenham Midfielder Eriksen had earlier called for a truce saying that the players were willing to play the two games under the old commercial rights agreement.

"We have to solve this conflict now, not just digging the ditches deeper," Eriksen said on the Danish Players’ Association website.

"So we’re happy to stretch our hand again, even though DBU put it away in the first try.

"Let’s renew the old deal by one month. Then we have organised relationships right now and we are prepared to play the international matches this week.

"Sign up and we will sit on the plane immediately. We are ready and we will play."

So far though it appears like his pleas have been ignored by the Danish FA.
