Cape Town - Greg Etafia will not be joining an influx of players leaving relegated Moroka Swallows and instead penned a new contract that will see him double-up as a player and goalkeeper coach.

Etafia told Sport24 that Swallows offered him a role to double up as player and goalkeeper coach.

“Indeed, I was offered a role to remain at the club doubling up as a player as well as a goalkeeper coach and have accepted the responsibility,” Etafia said.

“It’s a chance for me to pass the experience to the youngster after long service at the club.”

The Nigerian has been with Swallows since 2003 having joined from Plateau United and won trophies such as the 2004 ABSA Cup, 2009 Nedbank Cup and 2012 MTN8 since joining the Dube Birds.

Etafia said while his focus will now be on passing his expertise to youngster, he will still play for the team if needed.

“Look, I think my bigger task will now be on training young goalkeepers, but I will still play for the team if needed in goals,” said Etafia.
