Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town and SuperSport United played out to a 1-1 draw at the Cape Town Stadium in the third/fourth playoff at this weekend’s Cape Town Cup.

In a typical pre-season friendly neither side were able to find their rhythm, and much of the battle took place in the centre of the park.

Ajax coach Roger De Sa rung the changes from the team that lost on penalties to Sporting Lisbon in the semi-final on Friday.

However it was SuperSport, who were still hurting from their 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Friday, who would open the scoring through Bafana Bafana international Thuso Phala.

Phala was fastest to react after a good save by Ajax keeper Jody February, but who was only able to parry Jeremy Brockie’s effort at goal into the path of the diminutive winger.

Just before half-time February was in action again, once again saving a curling effort from New Zealander.

Ajax came close to equalising in the 56th minute when Cecil Lolo’s free kick beat everyone in the box, but could only find the woodwork.

Phumelele Bhengu had a chance for SuperSport a few minutes later, but once again February was up to the task.

Just when it looked to be in the bag for SuperSport, Travis Graham headed in Franklin Cale’s free kick in stoppage time to draw level.
