Cape Town City have moved to appoint Aaron Mokoena as assistant coach to Jan Olde Riekerink.

This comes following Vasili Manousakis's departure to AmaZulu to reunite with his former coaching partner Benni McCarthy.

Mokoena, 40, enjoyed a massively succesful career from Germany and the Netherlands to playing in the English Premier League for Blackburn Rovers and Portsmouth before ending his career with Wits.

He knows Riekerink from their time at Ajax Amsterdam together.

Mokoena has previously served as assistant team manager to the South African senior national team and as head of scouting for Swallows FC but has no formal coaching experience.

Speaking to the club's media channels, Mokoena expressed his delight at the appointment.

"Coming to join such a massive club, the relationship I had with my ex coach, Jan Olde Riekerink back in the days from my time at Ajax Amsterdam already makes me feel at home."
