Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town came from behind to beat Jomo Cosmos 2-1 in an Absa Premiership match at Olen Park on Sunday afternoon.

Charlton Mashumba opened up the scoring early on for Cosmos before second half goals courtesy of Prince Nxumalo and Mosa Lebusa handed Ajax their fourth win of the league season.

The win sees Ajax up to 12th place on the table with 16 points form 13 games while the loss for Cosmos, their eighth of the season, sees them just above the relegation zone in 14th place on ten points from 14 games.

It was the perfect start for Cosmos who opened the scoring in the third minute thanks to Charlton Mashumba who was first to a through ball from from Mxolisi Macuphu and made no mistake in beating the keeper, 1-0.

Ajax took the game by the scruff of the neck thereafter, but found it difficult to beat an in-form Sherwyn Naicker between the posts for Cosmos.

In the 25th minute Naiker produced a superb one-handed save to deny Frankly Cale from long distance.

Ten minutes later Naiker’s acrobatics saw him beat away a powerful Riyaad Norodien 20-yard free-kick.

The half ended 1-0 in favour of the home side.

Ajax continued to push forward in the second half and found the equaliser in the 56th minute when Prince Nxumalo headed home a Franklyn Cale corner-kick, 1-1.

In the 75th minute Ajax took the lead when Nxumalo turned provider and supplied a cross for Mosa Lebusa to head home, 2-1.

Cosmos tried to find their way back into the game, but Ajax held on for the win which sees them move away from the relegation zone.
