Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town midfielder Grant Magerman admits it's been a whirlwind twelve months, as his meteoric rise continued at the U-20 World Cup in South Korea.

The 18-year-old midfielder marked off an incredible breakthrough season at the Urban Warriors, winning the Young Player of the Year award for his energetic midfield displays in the second half of the season.

Stanley Menzo's side profited with an upturn in results, as the teenager scored three goals and registered an assist in the 14 games he featured in.

The form led to Magerman's inclusion in the South Africa U20 World Cup squad, where he scored their opening and only goal of the tournament in the 2-1 defeat to Japan.

Following on with a 2-0 defeat to Italy and a 0-0 draw with eventual group winners Uruguay, Amajita crashed early out of the tournament but the youngster believes the experience he's gained has been invaluable for his development.

"It was amazing to be part of the squad that took part in the World Cup, scoring that goal felt absolutely amazing, finding the back of the net at what is the biggest level in our age group," he told the club's website.

"It was just an amazing experience, playing against players who compete at the top level, players who play for big clubs, but yes just disappointed that we had to return home so early.

"The whole tournament was a leaning curve for us as South Africans, you can't afford to lose concentration for a single moment. Also, importantly, you have to take your chances when they come."
