Cape Town - Reports are claiming that second-tier club AmaZulu are in the process of buying out fellow KwaZulu-Natal outfit Thanda Royal Zulu's top-flight status.

Thanda are set to return to the Premiership for the first time in a decade after they won the National First Division title this past season.

AmaZulu, meanwhile, were condemned to a third successive campaign in the NFD after finishing fifth, just two points off the play-off places.

The Soccer Laduma website quoted a source on Monday saying that it looks like Usuthu are opting for the short route back to the top.

"Thanda Royal Zulu is in the process of selling its PSL status. AmaZulu are now interested in buying the club. The club is being sold for around R60 million," claimed the source.

And according to KickOff website, AmaZulu boss Lunga Sokhela has just about confirmed that a deal is underway.

"That's a bit difficult to comment on," Sokhela said.

"But I can confirm there was a discussion between the two clubs (AmaZulu and TRZ), and now we are waiting to see what it is that the (PSL) executive will say."

When asked again by the publication for confirmation, Sokhela reportedly replied: "We can say so."

Thanda chairman Pierre Delvaux was quoted earlier this month as saying that high projected running costs could force the club to sell their franchise.
