Cape Town - AmaZulu coach Steve Barker has praised veteran striker Siyabonga Nomvethe for his immediate impact in the team.

Nomvethe left Moroka Swallows to join Usuthu earlier this month and has scored two goals in two appearances.

The most recent of those goals was against his former club Swallows in a 2-1 victory on Saturday.

The 38-year-old striker was recruited to boost the Durban side's chance of promotion after their relegation from the Premiership last season.

"Bhele brings goals, goals and goals. Look, the two goals he scored in two games is a big plus for us," Barker told the club's website.

"He's experienced you know, you can see in the last 10 to 15 minutes, he held the ball and won a couple of free-kicks for us.

"Off the field, he's huge for the club. Young players sit next to him and in the change room, they look at his achievements and he's an inspiration on and off the field.

"He's got the qualities of a top striker and there's a goal he scored but it was deemed offside. The way he took it shows his quality."

AmaZulu are eight on the National First Division table with 25 points from 16 games.
