Cape Town - Baroka FC have announced that coach Kgoloko Thobejane has been released from his position with immediate effect.

Thobejane was shown the door after appearing at a second club hearing for allegedly drinking on the team bus after their 2-0 loss to Free State Stars at the beginning of February.

He had failed to show up for his initial hearing last week, but was present on Monday.

The club's chairperson Khurishi Mphahlele added that interim boss MacDonald Makhubedu will remain in charge of the team for the rest of the season.

Makhubedu had been in charge of Baroka's five matches since Thobejane was suspended, winning two and drawing the other three.

Mphahlele told the KickOff website: "Yes we have released him, and this time he showed up for the hearing."

Mphahlele added that they will back the former Acornbush United head coach until the end of the current campaign.

"He will finish the season, we think he can do well. He has done well and we have not lost in the last five matches, so we will give him until end of the season and then we will take it from there."
