Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns posted an image of Jamaican sprinter and the fastest man alive, Usain Bolt, holding up a shirt of the Pretoria-based club on Instagram.

South African soccer and Sundowns fans in particular naturally went crazy on social media, questioning the authenticity of the image.

Sundowns spokesperson Thulani Thuswa told Times Live that the image of Bolt holding the shirt is in fact real.

"Usain and Sundowns are both sponsored by sports gear company Puma and I cannot fathom why people would think that the photo is not real. Why?"

"The Puma marketing team came to South Africa recently and they took the Sundowns shirt to Jamaica to Usain," said Thuswa.

"People must stop their petty jealousy. We are not some small team‚ we are a big team."

In July, Puma become the official kit partner for the Brazilians, having signed a long-term partnership with the club.

The reigning PSL champions are set to face Egypt's Zamalek in the final of the CAF Champions League at Atteridgeville on Saturday, October 15.
