Cape Town - Jeremy Brockie is hoping the mental shackles have been released after finally opening his account for Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday.

The New Zealand international earned a move to Chloorkop in January after regularly banging in the goals for Tshwane rivals SuperSport United during a three-year spell.

However, Brockie failed to find the back of the net in 12 appearances across all competitions for Pitso Mosimane's side last term and his goal drought extended into the new campaign.

The 31-year-old striker broke his duck in some fashion though, scoring with a cracking left-footed volley against Free State Stars to help the Brazilians to a 3-1 victory which took them up to third in the Premiership table.

He feels confident that more goals will follow and hopes to be given another chance to prove his worth when Orlando Pirates visit Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

"On Monday when I found out I was starting, I felt quite confident and told a few people that I think I'm going to break the ice," he told reporters.

"And what better way to do it than setting up a nice volley for me to put in the back of the net.

"The hardest part is mentally trying to deal with it. Ever since I arrived in the country I've scored goals consistently and then I got the move that I wanted to Sundowns.

"I knew it was going to be difficult, but I thought I would have adapted a little bit quicker.

"I definitely want more. I feel very good for Saturday. I think now that the first one's out of the way in a competitive game, hopefully they start free flowing and keep myself in the starting XI and help the team to the top of the table where they should be."
