Johannesburg - Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma said donning the Amakhosi jersey comes with a lot of responsibility and expectation, but he is ready to step up for a challenge.

The 21-year-old was thrown into a deep end when he made his long awaited debut in a 3-2 loss to Cape Town City at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday, following an ankle injury to skipper Itumeleng Khune.

The Leratong-born shot stopper admitted he is relishing a healthy competition for a starting berth with Khune and Brilliant Khuzwayo.

"Playing for Kaizer Chiefs comes with a lot of pressure and responsibility," explained Bvuma.

"This is a big team, not only in South Africa but also in Africa. So that comes with a lot of expectation and you need to perform whenever (you) get a chance to play.

"I'm competing with the best goalkeeper in the country Itumeleng Khune and I'm so blessed to work with him. I'm learning a lot from him together with Brilliant Khuzwayo."

Bvuma also expressed his displeasure after failing to make a dream start in the Phefeni Glamour Boys colours, saying he would have wanted to walk away with a man of the match accolade in his first PSL game.

"Coming to the game, it was a big game for me. I (have) dreamt of getting a man of the match award and winning my first game for Chiefs," said Bvuma.

"But it wasn't to be but we'll soldier on as a team and overall I am happy with the way I have performed."

The young promising goalkeeper will be looking to continue with his fine momentum when Amakhosi travel to the Mbombela Stadium to lock horns against SuperSport United on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 18:00.
