Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town veteran winger Franklin Cale has resumed training earlier than expected after undergoing surgery to his Zygomatic Arch just two weeks ago, however, Cale will need to train and play in a protective mask.

According to the club's website, Cale suffered the injury in our away clash with Chippa United after a head-to-head collision with towering defender, James Okwuosa. It was Cale who won the header and was subsequently awarded a free-kick.

In medical terms, Cale’s injury is diagnosed as a fracture to his Zygomatic Arch. In translation, he suffered a fracture to the bone which is situated just above his cheekbone, which is a very awkward place to sustain an injury as it has the ability to interrupt many parts of the head.

"It’s a little bit scary for me playing with a mask you know, but that’s why I’ve been training with it," stated Cale.

"I got it on Monday so it’s a little bit uncomfy, but I have to get used to it. It’s never easy when you get injured because you want to help your team-mates.

"It’s not to just watch football. I was off for two weeks but the fitness is still there, I must just get back to playing ways now."

"Polokwane are a difficult team, especially when you play away. They are a similar team to us, but they are more compact in the middle and like playing forward passes.

"They’ve got some nice speedy players. We just have to go out there and be ourselves. We need the three points and they need it too, so it can be a game that can maybe go our way if we just stick to our plan,” he added.

Cale will be back in contention for a place in the team as Ajax Cape Town travel to Polokwane City this Saturday as Absa Premiership action fully resumes.

Kick-off is at 15:30.
