Cape Town - Cape Town City chairperson John Comitis has confirmed that midfielder Allan Kateregga has left the club and is now a free agent.

Uganda international Kateregga spent the end of last season on loan at Maritzburg United and helped the KZN club survive relegation.

Comitis revealed that his club had the option to renew the midfielder's deal but they opted let him leave as they wanted to open a foreign spot in the squad.

Kateregga is a free agent," Comitis told KickOff.

"Ja, we've parted - ways, listen we've transferred him to Maritzburg United, we had an option to take him back, which we didn't exercise at a later stage.

"Ja it's been like that because we had too many foreigners so weren't going to take him back.

"I don't know he's got some few offers. I think he is going back to Uganda. In one of the big clubs there."

Cape Town City start their PSL campaign against Baroka FC away from home on Saturday.
