Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs has confirmed the appointment of former defender, Patrick Mabedi, as the new assistant coach to Steve Komphela following the release of John Pantsil in the position.

The 43-year-old Mabedi is expected to serve Amakhosi for the next two years in the position, starting from July, 1.  After retiring at Moroka Swallows, having made over 200 appearances for Chiefs, Mabedi re-joined Cape Town All Stars as head coach in January this year.

The Malawian played for Amakhosi from 1998 to 2006, making 205 appearances.  He enjoyed a celebrated stint for the Glamour Boys, winning numerous trophies including the back to back Premiership titles in 2003/4 and 2004/5.

Mabedi led Amakhosi as a captain between 2003 and 2006 before he left to complete his career with Swallows.  Mabedi welcomed the opportunity to return to Naturena.

“I am happy to be back home.  I look forward to making a contribution to the success of this great institution. This is a privilege. I wish to thank the Club Management for this opportunity,” he said.
