Cape Town - Amakhosi youngster Wiseman Meyiwa has revealed the impact teammate Willard Katsande has had on his fledgling career.

The 17-year-old Pietermaritzburg-born defensive midfielder was recently promoted to the club's first team, and impressed during pre-season.

Now, he has his sights on making a name for himself, with the help of Katsande.

"Katsande talks a lot with me," said the young Meyiwa.

"For example, he tells me to never be scared when playing. He also advises me a lot about positioning, when to be where on the pitch, especially when we are defending," the self-professed All Blacks fan was quoted by his club's website.

"When I play with Katsande in the same team at training, everything becomes very easy. He’s always motivating me and giving tips on how to become a better player," said Meyiwa, nicknamed "Ten-Ten" after club legend Petros "Ten-Ten" Nzimande, himself a defensive midfielder.

Meyiwa was part of the Amajita side that took part at the recent FIFA Under-20 World Cup where he impressed, among others, Italy coach and AC Milan legend Alberigo Evani, who said: "South Africa's number six (Meyiwa) might play at some stage in Europe... He was our great worry and it was our tactic to block him from getting the ball..."
