Cape Town - Daylon Claasen has declared himself ready to answer the call of Wits coach Gavin Hunt after making a full recovery from his knee injury.

The 28-year-old missed the opening two months of the new campaign as a result of the injury he sustained in April, having been a regular for Hunt's side last term.

Claasen had only returned to South Africa in 2017 after a nine-year stint in Europe and he made 24 Premiership appearances for the Clever Boys before being side-lined.

Hunt revealed last week that the Ajax Cape Town youth product could make his long-awaited comeback against Free State Stars in the Telkom Knockout on Saturday, and he is raring to go after seven months out.

"I'm happy to be just back on the field and running. It's been going well and I'm happy I can kick the ball again," Claasen was quoted as saying by Business Day.

Claasen acknowledges he has a fight on his hands to win back his place in the first team, with Cole Alexander and Terence Dzvukamanja having done an admirable job in his absence to help Wits to the top of the table, where they hold a one-point lead over Orlando Pirates after nine matches.

"It's very important that we are doing well. It's good for competition. It means I also have to pull up my socks to compete with other guys," he added.

"You know what‚ anywhere the coach wants to play me‚ I will be ready. For me there's no specific position."
