Cape Town - Absa Premiership club Cape Town City have announced the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs striker Matthew Rusike.

After teasing the possible signing of head coach Benni McCarthy's former Bafana Bafana team-mate Steven Pienaar, City once again surprised football fans with the addition of Rusike.

"Moments before the deadline coach Benni has put pen to paper, roping in the newest #Citizen that has just arrived at CT International," City Tweeted.

Rusike has been a free-agent since October 2017 after leaving Tunisian outfit Club Africain.

"Cape Town City is delighted to announce the signing of highly-rated forward Matthew Rusike from Club Africain," City said a Twitter Post.

"Rusike arrived at Cape Town International on deadline day to conclude the deal with City. He arrived from Stockholm amidst a likely return to the Swedish Premier League - and we are delighted that Matty has decided to join us amidst other offers."

City have had a busy January transfer window as they look to bolster their CAF Confederation Cup chances.

The club secured the services of Allan Kateregga, Bradley Ralani, Masoud Juma and Kwanda Mngonyama while letting go of Aubrey Ngoma and Lehlohonolo Majoro, who joined Mamelodi Sundowns and Wits respectively.

Meanwhile, City will have a tough task on Friday evening with a top of the table clash against Mamelodi Sundowns at Athlone Stadium.

Kick-off is at 20:00.
