Cape Town City coach Jan Olde Riekerink felt his side should have overcome Kaizer Chiefs following their 2-1 loss on Saturday.

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo opened the scoring after just seven minutes at the Cape Town Stadium before Happy Mashiane doubled Chiefs' lead on 19 minutes.

The Citizens rallied back in the second half with a number of chances, but only Fagrie Lakay found the target, on 83 minutes, for his third goal in two games.

The result left City in sixth place on the DStv Premiership standings with 16 points from 11 games. Chiefs are just three points behind in eighth.

Speaking after the game, Riekerink told SuperSport: "We lost it in the first 20 minutes and that especially has to do with, we have the ball, they have the ball, that also has to do with the rest defence and I think we were very, not organised but not alert.

"Everybody knows what to do and we gave away too much pace and lost two times the ball when there was transition, I think from minute 20 we were the better team. I'm very happy we created chances and that is one of the things that was not good from the last matches."

He added: "This team was capable of beating Kaizer Chiefs, we knew if they drop back they will let us make the game and if you make the game you lose the ball, you're far away from your own goal and we had to be careful on these opportunities we gave away."
