Cape Town - Highlands Park coach Owen da Gama is delighted with the bright start to life made by striker Tendai Ndoro, who scored against Cape Town City on Saturday.

The Zimbabwe international made a major contribution as the Lions of the North recorded a much needed 2-0 victory.

In addition, the former Ajax Cape Town forward also got an assist in last week's defeat to AmaZulu.

The 33-year-old has only recently returned to playing after serving a suspension for playing for three club's in one season which is against FIFA rules.

Nonetheless, he appears back to his best and could be an important player for the rest of 2018/19.

Da Gama said: "That's an understatement, I'm more than happy. We were on the back foot a little bit and we said let's unleash Tendai, it will unsettle them a little bit. And it did unsettle them, and he could have had two there.

"But I'm very happy for Tendai. I'm happy with his attitude, his spirit, his contribution as a senior player to the rest of the players, the way he motivates and talks to them.

"So Tendai, he has been absolutely a plus to this team. I will like to get as much points as possible. We don't want to be worried about relegation and all that, because you know there is a monkey on our back. Remember the team got promoted and went back down. So, there is a bit of a monkey on our back.

"Once we get over that and once we get enough points to say that we are safe, I think that's when we will be a bit happy, because then we know we can build for the future even more.

"Now we are still under a lot under pressure and we are still very nervous about the whole situation. As you can understand it is the history of what happened.

"But I'm totally confident that this group of players strengthened with a few players now in the transfer window period, I believe we will do well in the league."

Highlands are next in action in the Premiership on Tuesday, December 11 when they meet Polokwane City at the Pietersburg Stadium in Polokwane.
