Dlamini reveals AmaZulu's plan for Chiefs

AmaZulu head coach Ayanda Dlamini says they knew what to expect from Kaizer Chiefs and were able to plan accordingly.

Usuthu claimed an unexpected 1-0 win in the Premiership at Soccer City on Saturday after an impressive rear-guard display before hitting Amakhosi on the counter.

Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp has come in for criticism in recent weeks for making the side too predictable after an imposing first half of the season.

This will undoubtedly be made worse by Dlamini's claim that they had a plan for the Soweto Giants that worked so effectively.

"We had a plan. We knew they rely more on their front three, they give them freedom to play and we knew also their strong point is to play as set-pieces and long balls cause they are very good in the air with Nurkovic and Castro," Dlamini said after the match.

"They are very good in the air and then they run from behind. But we knew if we can deal with that and play our normal game, just keep the ball, they will be frustrated because if you keep the ball more they are looking for the ball.

"They don’t want that, they don’t like defending. Just do your thing, keep the ball, be calm on the ball and they will struggle. I think the boys did that very well."

The result breaks the title race wide open once again even though Orlando Pirates also failed to win on the day. Mamelodi Sundowns are now seven points behind Chiefs with two games in hand so can pull right up behind them if they manage to win both.
