Cairo - Following a historic and much desired CAF Champions League triumph, Mamelodi Sundowns attacking midfielder Keagan Dolly says the Brazilians deserved to win the continental competition as a result of their hard work and good mentality within the team.
The Chloorkop side overcame all the odds and defeated Zamalek 3-1 on aggregate to claim their first prestigious African star.
Dolly stressed that his team-mates were aware that it would not be an easy task against the Egyptian giants in their own backyard.
However, Sundowns did well enough to stand their ground with one eye the prize.
The 23-year-old extended his praises to the club's supporters, who accompanied the team to Egypt for an epic historic battle.
“It was very difficult, Zamalek is a good team and we respect them,” Dolly said after the match.
“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, we knew we were going to work extra harder to complete our mission here in Cairo.
“But with our hard work and the positive mentality we had in the team throughout the tournament we went all the way.
“People might say that we were very lucky to be in the campaign but it doesn’t matter now, we have won it now and I think we really deserved to win it.
“Credit must go to our supporters who went to Egypt and the technical staff not forgetting my team-mates.”
Sundowns are the second South African team to win the Champions League after arch-rivals Orlando Pirates claimed their famous victory over ASEC Abidjan of Ivory Coats back in 1995.
