Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teko Modise has reportedly received death threats via social media from an individual claiming to be a Zamalek fan.

Sundowns beat the Egyptian giants 3-0 in the CAF Champions League final first leg, and appear to be on the brink of winning Africa's most prestigious club competition.

Modise has seemingly been used in the tournament mainly for his experience, and the 33-year-old has made only two starts for the Brazilians in the competition.

Nonetheless, the veteran playmaker has been on the receiving end of a death threat, ahead of this weekend's second leg.

The threat on social media read: "You have two choices, death or lose...in Cairo you have no other choices."

Sundowns’ public relations officer, Thulani Thuswa, has expressed his hope that the threat will be dealt with by officials in that country.

He told Soccer Laduma: "We will not be drawn in to supporters who are threatening to kill people. But, obviously we hope that the law enforcement in Egypt are monitoring this."
