Cape Town - Kermit Erasmus has revealed the details behind his move from Orlando Pirates to Stade Rennes, stating that a video of his performances was what first sparked the French Ligue 1 side's interests.

Erasmus’ European move was confirmed on Thursday afternoon, taking many by surprise, including Pirates head coach Eric Tinkler, who said he knew only about the player’s plans to attend to ‘family matters’ in Holland, the striker having a Dutch wife.

But speaking to his new club’s website, Erasmus says that his new employers had been chatting to Pirates boss Irvin Khoza ahead of the transfer being completed.

“The [Rennes] leaders have seen videos of my performances in South Africa that they have surely appreciated. They then came up to see some of my games and met my chairman. Everything went well,” said the 25-year-old.

The Bafana Bafana marksman says he is focussed and determined to make a success of his stay at Stade Rennais, and hopes to help the club qualify for one of the European club cup competitions.

“My first ambition is to adapt to the environment, to win my place in the team and contribute to the club's success,” he said.

“Stade Rennais is a very good team in France which has the objective to qualify for a European competition.

“European football inspires me - the passion that fans have for this sport, the will to win all the games, all the competitions. These are feelings that I share and that's why I am here.”
