Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates head coach Muhsin Ertugral felt that the 4-4-2 formation employed in the Carling Black Label Cup did not play to his side's strengths.

The Buccaneers struggled to impose themselves on proceedings, but managed to go into the half-time break on level terms with their Soweto rivals nonetheless.

However, they came unstuck in the second half as Erick Mathoho fired Chiefs in front, before substitute Lewis Macha netted on his debut to put the result beyond any doubt.

Reflecting on what was a disappointing result for Pirates, Ertugral told SuperSport: "The selection of the 4-4-2 for us with two strikers was a bit problematic.

"We needed to get into half-time to see what we could do about it.

"I think second half was much better, but we made a blunder in that situation, where we spoke about not to put the ball in cleaning situations from the defence into the middle, because they overloaded the middle and from there, they scored.

"We had two great chances to score, it didn't happen and in the end we needed to open up to get the goal and that was the counter."
