Cape Town - Orlando Pirates coach Mushin Ertugral refused to blame goalkeeper Felipe Ovono for their abrupt exit in the MTN8 quarter-final to Bidvest Wits on Saturday.

Pirates suffered a 2-1 defeat to an in-form Wits side, who in their own respect look a formidable side this season following on from their open day victory against Kaizer Chiefs.

Ovono looked set to leave the Soweto giants in the off season following a transfer-listing and surprised many by starting the Buccaneers opening two fixtures this season.

Despite looking shaky and possibly at fault for the goal that knocked them out of the tournament on Saturday, Ertugral feels it's just rustiness from a lack of first-team football.

"We cannot only blame him, it's an on-going process, he didn't play a lot last season, so we gave him that trust and obviously on two occasions it was problematic, especially the second goal," he said after the game.

"Mistakes happen in the game, we also need to be a little bit more alert to where we know Wits are very strong, but I will take blame."
