Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Shane McGregor has defended coach Gavin Hunt, stating that his squad is simply not good enough to achieve better results.

Amakhosi have struggled to make a mark on the DStv Premiership this season as they are in 10th position with only four wins to their name after 17 fixtures.

Hunt has come under pressure due to the underwhelming results, but McGregor believes the squad at his disposal just won't cut it at the top level of South African football.

"They haven't been able to strengthen the squad and obviously the team is not good enough," McGregor told the SowetanLIVE.

"The players are not good enough, so it is difficult for them. The defeat (against Wydad Casablanca) is now going to be a huge blow. It doesn't help confidence.

"As I said, if you don't have the players, there is nothing you can do, unfortunately.

"And if you can't buy and bring players, there is nothing they can do until next season. They need to try their best and see what they can do until the rest of the year."
