Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs have expressed their condolences to former club coach, Mario Tuani, who sadly passed away in his home country of Chile last Sunday.

Nicknamed 'the Godfather', Tuani guided the Glamour Boys in 1979 and 1980 towards winning the Mainstay Cup and league title during his two seasons in charge.

Chiefs chairperson Kaizer Motaung thanked the late Chilean for his contribution, and expressed solidarity with his mourning family.

"When Mario joined us he was already in South Africa," Motaung told the club's official website.

"He coached several clubs and, amongst his accolades, he left an indelible mark by helping us to win the league title in 1979, the first time we won this trophy after the multiracial NPSL started a year before.

"On behalf of Kaizer Chiefs, I wish to express my deepest heartfelt condolences to the Tuani family and friends. I wish them strength to accept that their loved one has earned his medals."
