Cape Town - Benni McCarthy believes he will fail more times than he would like during his first years as the head coach of Cape Town City.

PART 1: Benni opens up on his 1st year as coach

The 40-year-old replaced Eric Tinker at the Citizens ahead of the 2017/18 campaign to take up his first professional coaching job.

In his first season, the former Bafana Bafana striker guided the Citizens to a fifth-place Absa Premiership finish and the MTN8 final - which they lost on penalties to SuperSport United.

However, City could avenge the United defeat at the end of the month when they meet Matsatsantsa once again at the Moses Mabhida Stadium for this season's MTN8 final - dubbed 'Act 2'.

In an exclusive three part interview with Sport24, McCarthy opens up about how he is expecting to fail more times than he would like, but is taking it in his stride and learning as much from it as it happens.

"Failure is a part of life, no one goes throughout life without failure," said McCarthy.

"No one goes through life without having hit a couple of brick walls.

"Coming into this job, I know that I'm going to fail, probably a lot of times, because I am very new in the job.

"There are way more experienced coaches than me that knows the business more, so I am going to fail.

"But I'm going to get better, and when I'm three, four, five years into my coaching career, that is when I've failed enough and I have learned, then I'm going to be ready."
