Kaizer Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt hit out at his team after a costly error by goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune gifted Black Leopards a goal as the two sides played out to a 2-2 stalemate at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday.

Leopards took the lead after an attempted clearance by Khune was played straight to Ovidy Karuru who duly obliged to roll the ball into an empty net.

After the away side doubled their lead Kaizer Chiefs fought back to salvage a point after two second-half goals by Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Khama Billiat.

Despite the late fightback, Hunt criticised Khune for gifting Leopards their opener which made their task of securing a much-needed win that much harder.

"Let's be honest we gave them a start," Hunt told SuperSport TV post match. "Unbelievable errors, there's not much I want to say but you can't give away a start like that.

"There were big mistakes from big players so you don't expect that but it's been happening since I've been here.

"So we've just got to get through it and stick together.

Hunt added that his side have been working hard behind the scenes to improve results after just one win from their opening six fixtures as they languish in 12th position in the league PSL standings.

"I'm disappointed because I thought there were a lot of opportunities [to score] in the second-half, I mean the last play of the game with [Siphelele] Ntshangase where Billiat tries to flick it.

"He just had to play it simple there and we would've scored. So I'm disappointed but we gave them a start and that's what we've been doing all season.

"It's certainly an area of the team that we work at on a daily basis but basic things [mistakes] like that we can't have.

Chiefs next face SuperSport United in a league clash on Tuesday.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
