Cape Town - Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Eugene Zwane believes the versatile Edwin Gyimah should be fielded in the midfield rather than in defence.

Gyimah has stepped into central defence with Siyabonga Sangweni, Happy Jele and Rooi Mahamutsa struggling with injuries.

"I think he is not doing too badly, though he is yet to convince me that he can play as a centre-back," Zwane told Goal website.

"For me I feel he is more comfortable playing as a holding midfielder than in defence.

"I know he is a strong boy and offers Pirates something that the other defenders don't have. So I'm sure that Gyimah can grow in that position as well and be a good centre-back."

Zwane also praised Eric Tinkler for playing the likes of Tendai Ndoro, Luvuyo Memela and Gift Motupa while benching underperforming players in the team.

"I think players were in a comfort zone at Pirates. That is a thing of the past as they have managed to win three games on the trot after a long time, with the coach having dropped all the players that were not doing enough to the team."
