Cape Town - Orlando Pirates midfielder Edwin Gyimah says the club has made the Nedbank Cup their priority as they attempt to rescue a poor season.

Down in seventh spot in the Premiership standings, and having already missed out on the MTN8 and the Telkom Knockout, Pirates can ensure some success this term if they are to go on and win the Nedbank Cup, where they will face Jomo Cosmos in the round of 16.

Not only would a win in the Nedbank Cup offer relief for under-pressure head coach Eric Tinkler, but it would also allow Pirates to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.

"The Nedbank Cup game is very important because that’s the only trophy that we have the chance to win this season," Gyimah told Goal.

"You know it's good that it's not only the league that can give us a place and chance to play in Africa, but winning the Nedbank Cup can also give us that chance.

"That's why we really want to go all the way and win it. It won't be easy playing against Cosmos but as a team, we want to win this Cup starting with the Cosmos game."
