Cape Town - SuperSport United coach Gordon Igesund says it was best for both parties that Bongani Khumalo to leave the club to join Bidvest Wits.

After joining Matsatsantsa at the beginning of the season, Khumalo soon lost his place in the starting line-up after poor displays.

Igesund believes it was the best decision since prodigious defender Denwin Farmer was the preferred central defender.

"Khumalo is a great professional. But you can't keep a high-profile player like him on the bench and not playing on a regular basis," Igesund told KickOff.

"I have young Denwin Farmer, only 18 years of age. My choice was that I am going to have a high-profile player on the bench and a high-profile player keeping out a youngster doing well?

"If you remember it was difficult for Khumalo because at that stage when he was playing when we lost four games in a row and when he had a stomach bug, he didn’t travel with us to Chippa United…I took a youngster and played him. We won and we have not been beaten since then."
