Cape Town City head coach Jan Olde Riekerink felt his side dominated Orlando Pirates despite being reduced to ten men in a 1-0 defeat in an MTN8 quarter-final at Orlando Stadium, on Saturday.

New signing Terrence Dzvukamanja scored the only goal of the game as the Buccaneers pulled off only their second win over bogey team CT City in ten meetings in all competitions.

The Citizens were reduced to ten men when striker Fagrie Lakay received a straight red card for a studs up lunge on defender Wayde Jooste in the 32nd minute.

"I think we dominated the game," Riekerink said. "Even from the moment we went down to ten and also a big part of when it was a contest between 11 against 11.

"I hoped then in putting players a little bit more forward to create more chances as you could see throughout the game we were getting closer and closer [to an equaliser].

"We started putting in crosses a little earlier, later we started to play with two strikers and in the end we put our central defender Taariq Fielies as a striker.

"We created the opportunities we were looking for but we just didn't score."

Despite the defeat, the Dutchman commended his players' attitude throughout as they contested the majority of the match despite a numerical disadvantage.

"The players fought for it and really wanted to get a positive result and you could see their ambition through the passion with which they played and they deserved the goal but didn't get it.

"So now we're out of the tournament."

City next open their league campaign up against Chippa United at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 18:00.
